GSB Finals Overview
Seattle Orcas
The Orcas came into the playoffs as the #1 seed and have breezed their way to the finals. Seattle dominated Portland in the 1st round before sweeping the Martians after scoring nearly 80 points in the paint both games against them. In the playoffs 9 out of the 10 players on the roster are scoring in double digits and nearly everyone is shooting 60% from the floor or better. Dub Stern has been locking down the perimeter and passing lanes averaging 2.8 spg and 1 bpg as well. 3 of the 4 bigs for Seattle are also averaging over 1 bpg. 3pt shooting has been an added weapon throughout the playoffs for Seattle as they were dead last in 3pt attempts during the regular season but have started shooting them with more volume the last few games.
Seattle’s key to winning the finals is to continue to control the paint and to matchup Dub Stern on Muddy Blunts. If they can do both of those (assuming Dub slows down Blunts) then the Orcas should be looking at their first championship in franchise history. Seattle has a size advantage slightly over Ohio which seems to be another advantage they have been having on teams as well.
Vs
Ohio Shaman
After improving every season the Shaman finally reached the playoffs and are now in the finals as a #2 seed. Ohio has swept both rounds against Atlantic City and Baltimore, although having some very close games, they are looking to keep momentum rolling. MVP candidate Muddy Blunts is averaging 22 & 7 in the playoffs and Ohio has 4 perimeter players that are averaging over a steal per game. They also have 4 players that are averaging at least 2.5+ 3pt attempts shooting 60% or better from behind the arc. This goes to show how well rounded Ohio is on the perimeter on both ends of the court and just how consistent they are with executing their plays.
The key for the Shaman is the play of their big men. Seattle hasn’t faced this talent of a front court in the playoffs, especially another all S1 front court like themselves. Tribble is a potential all-gsb center and Evans, Metreaux, and Fiblin are all strong players that can handle the paint whenever needed. As long as Ohio shuts down the constant cut action from Seattle and controls the rebounds they should have the ability to come out on top for the S3 championship.
