Week 3 Game Previews
Season 4
Monday Night Games
- 7:30 PM ET: Boston Militia (1-1) vs. Motor City Muscle (0-2)
The Boston Militia march into Week 3 with an arsenal of firepower. Greg Powers has been a dominant force, averaging an impressive 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting a jaw-dropping 77% from the field. Complimenting him has been Brum James with 17.5 points per game, Mike Melo adding 17.0 points on 79% shooting, and King DeMoura chipping in 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per outing. This team thrives on balance, versatility, and precision, with a pick-and-roll attack that unlocks easy looks both in the paint and beyond the arc. Melo’s ability to slash to the rim or find scorers like James, Scooby Lewis, and Shawn Self (who is now taking more 3's) could give Boston the edge they need to overwhelm Motor City.
Meanwhile, the Motor City Muscle are stuck in first gear. Their engine has sputtered through the first two weeks, managing just 86 points per game while their defense leaks like a rusted-out radiator. They are giving up 116 points per contest. Right now, the Muscle look more like a jalopy than a finely tuned machine. Players like Joey Phillips, Robert Ivory, and Bear Johnson need to start firing on all cylinders, while the team as a whole must tighten the bolts on their defensive schemes. Where is Al Padraza? He also needs to make his mark on this team, his talent could be like a Nitro Boost for this team. Communication has been muffled, rotations are clunky, and effort seems to be missing its spark plug. It’s time for Motor City to rev up their engines, retool their focus, and reclaim their grit.
- 9:30 PM ET: Oceanside Surfs (1-1) vs Dallas Flying Stallions (0-2)
The Oceanside Surf are catching waves of momentum after a big win in Week 2, and they’ll be looking to hang ten again this week. Kobe Johnson, Josh Young 2.0, and Dime Hardaway are the team’s rip currents, pulling defenders every which way as they combine for 50 points per game. Riding shotgun on the Surfboard is Col. E.H. Taylor, whose improved play (11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game) has been a pleasant surprise. Oceanside’s defense is a sneaky strong undertow, dragging opponents into deep waters with their relentless energy. But if they want to dominate this matchup, they’ll need Bo Mambo to stop coasting and make some major waves of his own.
For the Dallas Flying Stallions, history seems to be repeating itself. A winless 0-2 start for the second consecutive season has them eyeing another mid-season resurgence, but they’ll need to clean things up in crunch time. Both losses have come down to late game collapses, with the Stallions losing focus in the final 3–4 minutes. Offensively, Kanin Able is off to a blazing start, averaging 24.5 points per game, with Che’rry Je’llo close behind at 23.0 points per game. However, opposing defenses are keying in on Jus Blaze and Tavian Tyree, turning their possessions into dead ends. Dallas needs to adjust their sets or find creative ways to get their stars more involved when it matters most.
The bench—traditionally a strength of Dallas—is also struggling to find its footing. Rebounding has been a glaring weakness, so expect that to be a point of emphasis heading into this matchup. If the Stallions can tighten their rotations and control the glass, they might finally get their season back on track. Bring the physicality in this matchup and force Oceanside to play perfect and make sure Able has the ball for the buzzerbeater.
