Week 3 Game Previews
Season 4
Tuesday Night Games
- 7:30 PM ET: NOLA Riders (1-1) vs. Pittsburgh Steelhawks (0-2)
The NOLA Riders are looking to rebound in a Big Easy way after their tough loss to the Spades last week. However, the Steelhawks are no team to take lightly, and this matchup demands precision and focus. NOLA’s offense is centered on Brennen McGinty, who is putting up a solid 15.0 points per game for the third time in his GSB career. But make no mistake—this team runs through Brendan Goshay, and the Riders need a signature breakout performance from their star. Goshay has been good, but not the jaw-dropping playmaker we know he can be. This game, with its favorable matchups, could be the perfect stage for him to soar. John Matherly and Kameron Best, both contributing 14.0 points per game, round out NOLA’s core, offering balanced scoring options.
Unfortunately, turnovers have been the Riders’ Achilles’ heel, with nearly every starter averaging 1-2 giveaways per game. That’s like adding spoiled shrimp to an otherwise perfect gumbo—it ruins everything. If NOLA can clean up their execution, get into a rhythm, and come out blazing, they can turn this game into a statement win.
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelhawks remain as one of the league’s most intriguing stories despite their winless record. They play with heart, staying competitive until late in games. Scout Mitchell (15.5 ppg) and Justin Banks (15.0 ppg, 6.5 apg) have stepped up as offensive leaders, with Dex Matty showing flashes of brilliance when consistent. Prince Revels has been a revelation, averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 assists as he grows into the role of point guard.
For Pittsburgh, better rotational staggering might be the key—they need a steady veteran presence on the floor at all times. With the right adjustments and continued grit, the Steelhawks could surprise a few folks and keep this one closer than expected.
- 9:30 PM ET: Vice City Kings (1-1) vs. Albuquerque Martians (2-0)
The Vice City Kings bring their athleticism and high-flying style to the Martians’ Mothership. Fresh off a dominant win over the Muscle, the Kings are hungry to keep their momentum going. Stills O’Goode has been the royal crown jewel, averaging a regal 21.5 points per game, while King James II follows closely with 20.0 ppg. Down low, Billy Bob Buckley has been an absolute workhorse, averaging a double-double on 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Buckley’s physicality clears the lane for forwards like Petey Wheatstraw, Donte Ali, and Zima Blue to attack, and Emmanuel Blackman takes charge of the bench unit and gets 10.5 points per game of his own.
But one question lingers: where is Truck Turner? The Kings need Turner to rev up and add another double-digit scorer to their arsenal. If they can unlock his potential, their offense will become even more dynamic and dangerous.
On the other side, the Albuquerque Martians may not be as flashy as last season, but their machine-like efficiency is undeniable. With a league-best 37.0 assists per game, this team is sharing the ball like a well-synced hive mind. Brent Lane (20.5 ppg), Al Ingram III (17.5 ppg), and Jon Fowler (17.0 ppg) form the team’s offensive core, but they’ll need contributions from Jason Peace, Pauly Truth, and Anthony Stover to keep pace with Vice City’s high-octane attack.
The key for Albuquerque will be physicality. They must dominate the boards and make Vice City work for every bucket, both inside and on the perimeter. If the Martians can impose their will defensively while maintaining their silky-smooth ball movement, they could continue their unbeaten streak and remain one of the league’s top squads.
