Pittsburgh Signs 3 Big Free Agents

Pittsburgh Making Free Agency Splash

The newly branded Pittsburgh Steelhawks have started free agency with a bang after taking over for Virginia Merfolk who has been a bottom team the last 2 seasons. The Steelhawks landed PG Justin Banks, SG Scout Mitchell, and C Truck Ackles this morning. New owner, Rob Penny, is bringing in Scout Mitchell in a front office position after his past experience being a coach for the Ohio Shaman. The Steelhawks also made a more quiet move bringing in prospect Lee Wind for a head coach.

Scout Mitchell has seen success in Ohio during his first 3 seasons in the league. The SG was a S1 all-star player and was runner-up 6MOTY that season also. He’s been the last 2 seasons in more of a smaller role, but was a big piece still nonetheless which helped Ohio reach the S3 finals. Pittsburgh signed Mitchell well beyond his minimum of 10M to a 2yr 17M annually max deal which could point to Scout being a top option again.

Last season's DPOTY, Truck Ackles, also headed to Pittsburgh on a max contract that gives the team a much needed big man and an elite one at that. After losing Bryant Buckets and Tyrese White to the ghost list the Steelhawks really needed another big man to pair with Kolton Brady. Ackles may be seen as a center that had inflated stats with high minutes, but either way he is one of the better big men in the league and will be a huge part of the future here in Pittsburgh.

The final signing, Justin Banks, is a very underrated move in my opinion. Banks has been forced to play SG in Albuquerque which has seen him do very well in that position, but now he has the chance to unlock his playmaking skills to go along with his scoring. A Banks/Revels point guard duo is a very good rotation for Pittsburgh in hopes to trend towards the competitive side.

After these 3 signings the Steelhawks look to be heading in the right direction despite not having their own 1st this or next season. These 3 moves go on top of the team trading for former Boston Militia scorer Dex Matty as well which only makes this team stronger.
